Patchouli Organic Essential Oil 50ml — Pogostemon Cablin. Extracted from the Pogostemon cablin plant of the mint family, this oil carries a rich, musky-sweet, spicy aroma. Source: Indonesia. Part of plant used: dried leaves. Extraction method: steam distillation.

The oil is obtained from young leaves that are dried and fermented before steam distillation. The fragrance and power of the oil improve with age. The plant is native to Malaysia and India and is known locally as 'puchaput'; the word patchouli comes from the Tamil 'pachchai ilai', meaning 'green leaf'.

Traditional and historical uses include:

• Used in potpourris and sachets between linen and clothes for fragrance and to keep bedbugs and insects away
• Placed between Indian cashmere shawls to protect merchandise from moths
• Popular as incense and fragrance in the 1960s and 70s; also used as a hair conditioner for dreadlocks
